If you search the internet there are plenty of different ideas on how to clean silver. Multiple different ideas but actually not many works. Some of them are pretty weird but who cares – the most important thing is for them to be effective. I have gathered probably the most efficient ones that you can do at home with things you already have laying in your house. So stop neglecting your silver. Cleaning it is actually pretty easy and fun. Since the ingredients you need are so weird, it’s interesting once you do it yourself and see the results.
- Aluminum Foil
Grab baking soda (1 tablespoon) and add it to boiling water in a bowl that is layered with aluminum foil on the bottom (with the shiny side up). Put the silver in the bowl and leave it for 1-3 minutes. After you remove it rinse the silver with cool water and dry it with a soft cloth. This won’t cost you anything since you probably have these things in your home. Depending on the state of the silver you might need to hold it for longer (3 minutes the longest).
- Lemon
You will need one lemon, salt, hot water, and a silver cleaning cloth. Grab a bowl, fill it with the hot water, squeeze the lemon and add 3 tablespoons of salt. Leave the silver in the mixture for around 5 minutes. Grab the silver cleaning cloth and start rubbing.
- Toothpaste
You need a dishwashing sponge. Add a pea-sized amount of toothpaste on it and start rubbing the silver. Then rinse with warm water. This works best when the tarnish isn’t a lot.
- Coca Cola
Coca Cola is actually doing amazing in cleaning. That’s why I keep repeating to everyone around me to stop drinking it. It shouldn’t be in your system. But you can soak your jewelry in it for maybe 10 minutes and it will remove the tarnish.
- Beer
Similar to the coca cola one, you can soak the jewelry for 5-10 minutes.
- Ketchup
Grab a paper towel and add some ketchup to it. Rub the silver with it and leave for 15 minutes. Then rub with a cloth and rinse.
- Laundry Detergent
You need a bowl of hot water and one cup of detergent. Mix them and place the silver in it. Remove it after around 5 minutes and rub with a cloth.
