Knowing that you have to clean your sneakers in order for them to last you a long time and look as good as you first bought them is terrible. After all, your schedule is filled with work, and responsibilities, taking care of your kids, walking your pet, and let’s not forget – cleaning your home. But you still need to find the time to take care of your belongings and your sneakers – especially when you spend a lot of money on them.
I have found a relatively easy method for cleaning sneakers that is cheap, easy, and effective. You are going to love what I have to say so keep reading and follow the steps!
How to Easily Clean Your Sneakers?
First let’s gather everything we are going to need for the cleaning which includes a bucket, a rag or a brush, a few microfiber cloths, Castile soap, washing soda, borax, and baking soda. If your sneakers are really dirty then also grab white vinegar and some salt.
Then remove the laces and the insoles – you can clean them in your washing machine.
Continue by mixing Castile soap, washing soda, and the borax in a bucket, and then fill the bucket with water.
Start off with rinsing the shoes then soaking them in the bucket where you mixed all the ingredients. In order to keep them submerged in the cleaner, you can place something heavy inside the shoes so they don’t float. Let them sit there for at least two hours.
Then, once the two hours have passed, take them out of the bucket and start scrubbing them with the brush or rag – it doesn’t matter which one, whatever you have at home. But remember – be gentle. Rinse again.
In case the shoes are really dirty then grab the white vinegar and the salt I told you. Mix two cups of vinegar in a bucket and fill the rest with water. Again, submerge them in the mixture and let them sit for a few hours. If the shoes are smelly, I recommend you add two cups of salt to the mixture as well.
And finally, once you take them out of the bucket, it’s time to dry the sneakers. I like to allow them to air-dry by placing them in the sun. And keep in mind that you shouldn’t use throw them in your dryer because the high heat will damage them.
